Dett and Julie Otterbeck
Owners

Dett has been building and remodeling for over 25 years. Nineteen of those years he has operated his own business. He began working as a carpenter, working and managing in the field each day. Today he works in the office doing Sales, Marketing, Estimating, Scheduling, Production Management, Purchasing, Job Costing and Employee Management.

Dett enjoys hunting, camping, baseball with his boy’s and working on racecars.

Julie has been involved in the business since day one. She has an A.A.S. Degree in Accounting and has been working in this field for over 22 years. She continues to work in OBI doing Accounting, Bookkeeping, Payroll and Marketing.

Julie enjoys camping, baseball and aerobics.

Otterbeck Builders, Inc. began in 1988, operating from a home office for about five years. Dett worked in the field during the day and would see people and do estimates in the evening. In 2003, OBI moved into new office space and showroom currently located at 4151 US 20, Castleton, New York. They currently employ 11 people including: a full time sales person, Safety Coordinator, Production Manager, and +/- 8 Lead Carpenters/Carpenters. Together we produce between 30 and 40 jobs per year.

Remodeling Magazine awarded the “Big 50” to Otterbeck Builders, Inc. in 2004, our industries leading publication. The award was received in the “Team Work” category and goes to 50 remodeling companies out of about 2000 each year. They were also featured in Capital Region Building, a local building and remodeling trade magazine. The company continually strives to excel in all areas of the business including: Sales, Design, Marketing, Production, Employee Education and Customer Service.

Dett and Julie currently reside in Nassau, and have two boys – Nick and Corey.

Rudy Jahn
Production Magager

Rudy has been with OBI for over eight years. He has over 20 years of experience in building and remodeling and his carpentry and management skills are top notch. He ran his own business before coming to Otterbeck Builders.

Rudy’s hobbies are playing the guitar, playing horseshoes and riding his ATV. He currently resides with his wife here in Schodack.






Matt Rulison
Project Planner

Matt came to OBI in the fall of 2005.   He works in the office handling Sales, Design, Estimating, Scheduling, Purchasing and Job Costing.  He enjoys all forms of carpentry, as he continues to expand his focus to include other aspects of the building and remodeling industry.            

Raised in rural Montgomery County , Matt enjoys all forms of outdoor recreation, including hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.  He also closely follows major league baseball, and is a third-generation Yankee fan.





Dave Metchick
Lead Carpenter

Dave comes to OBI with over 30 years experience in the building and remodeling trades. He has been a lead carpenter/project manager for many years working with several other building/remodeling firms in the Capital Region area. Dave is also a certified Corian fabricator and installer.

A graduate of Colonie Central High School he now resides in Melrose. Dave’s hobbies include: Music (jazz and classic rock) and playing and teaching the guitar.




Mike Skriptshank
Lead Carpenter

I have over 20 years in the residential construction field as well as 13 years in the engineering field. I have an AAS from HVCC in Industrial Technology and some additional classes in the Construction Technology field.



Shane Smi
Lead
Carpenter

Shane comes to OBI with over ten years experience in home building industry. He is married, has two dogs and enjoys: hunting, fishing, music and living in the country.




Joseph Frye
Lead Carpenter

Joe started out as an apprentice cabinet maker under the guidance of his Grandfather (an old school German cabinet maker).  Over the years he has progressed more into general remodeling.  Although remodeling is a bit more on the “grander scale”, he is still enjoys being able to use his acquired skills to maintain attention to details on his projects.

Joe’s personal interests are: crafting mid-evil armor and weaponry.  He also enjoys Ju-jitsu and archery.



Jason Watson
Lead Carpenter

Jason comes to OBI with 20 years of experience and loves the business. His hobbies include: being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, music and spending time with his wife and children.







 

Caleb Buckman
Carpenter

Caleb comes to OBI with five summers of remodeling experience.  He is currently attending Alfred State University, majoring in Construction Management.

He enjoys outdoor activites.



Nick Otterbeck
Carpenter Helper

Nick is currently a senior at Columbia High School and will graduate in spring of 2008.  He is planning to attend college in the fall.  He will be studying residential construction and business management courses.  He has been working summers for the company for the past 3-4 years.  We all look forward to Nick becoming a full time employee and continuing on in the family business. Nick enjoys baseball (currently on the varsity team at Columbia and is a huge Red Socks Fan), ATVing, hunting and fishing.
